What our long-stay guests say

Stories from guests who chose the Costa de la Luz over a cold winter at home.

We escaped the Yorkshire damp for three months and came home a different couple. Walks on the beach every morning, the market on a Tuesday, dinner at the bar where everyone now knows us. Richard helped with the paperwork — we never felt alone.

In Oslo I would not see the sun for weeks in January. Here I walked on the beach every single day. The apartment was warm, the WiFi was good, and our neighbour brought us oranges from her garden. We're already booked for next winter.

Cheaper than heating our house in Dublin, and a great deal warmer. The non-lucrative visa sounded daunting on paper but Richard walked us through it. Three months turned into five — and we've already booked again for next year.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to your most important questions

Do I need a visa to spend the winter in Spain?
EU citizens can stay in Spain freely; no visa is needed for typical winter stays. For UK, Irish and other non-EU nationals, the non-lucrative visa is well suited to long winter stays. Ask us before you book and we'll walk you through what applies to your situation.
Am I covered for healthcare during my stay?
With a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC or GHIC) you have access to Spain's public healthcare. For longer stays we recommend international or top-up travel insurance. Our local manager is happy to help you find a suitable doctor or clinic nearby.
Do I have to pay tax in Spain if I winter there?
If you spend less than 183 days a year in Spain you remain a tax resident of your home country. Longer stays can make you a Spanish tax resident. We recommend checking with your tax adviser before booking for more than half a year.
Are pets allowed?
Most of our apartments welcome small pets on request. Let us know which pets are travelling with you and we'll confirm per property.
How fast is the internet? Can I work from here?
Every apartment has fibre WiFi (speed test available), a dedicated workspace and 4G backup. Our average download speed is above 100 Mbps — more than enough for video calls.
